About

OUR CATTLE

Hungryland Farms raises Florida Cracker cattle, descendants of Spanish cattle brought to the Americas in the 1500s and left to go feral. As one of the oldest breeds in North America, they were shaped primarily by natural selection in an environment generally hostile to cattle. This resulted in a heat-tolerant breed that is more naturally resistant to parasites and disease. Florida Cracker cattle are listed as a threatened heritage breed by the Livestock Conservancy. They are also on the Slow Food Foundation’s Ark of Taste. Our breeding cows and bull have been accepted for entry in the Florida Cracker Cattle Breeders Association Herd Book and are fully registered.

MORE ABOUT US

Hungryland Farms is located in Stuart, Florida on the northern edge of Palm Beach County. We believe in sustainable agriculture practices and the ethical raising of livestock and animals. All animals on our farm are free-range and never penned. The farm is divided into ten pastures with permanent fencing for rotational grazing of the cattle, allowing them to graze high quality, high protein forage in the Florida sunshine year-round. This practice also helps limit the parasite load, promotes regeneration of pasture grasses, and increases soil health. Our livestock well brings fresh water to troughs in each pasture, assisting in higher water quality which in turn helps maintain the natural health of our herd. Our herd is never given steroid hormone implants and no pesticides or herbicides are used in the pastures, including at the fence lines.

Hungryland Farms has been designed in coordination with the Department of Agriculture’s National Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) as part of their Environmental Quality Incentives Program, an environmental conservation program that helps farmers and ranchers integrate conservation into working lands. In 2024, Hungryland Farms was accepted into the Department of Agriculture's Conservation Stewardship Program. Our contact information is listed below.
